about our worship
at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church...
Our worship
is:
In the Name
of the Holy Trinity:
the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything
that I have commanded you.
Matthew 28:19
An Encounter
with the Living Jesus Christ.
On the first day of the week…Jesus came and stood among them
and said “Peace be with you.”
John 20:19
Biblical.
Every word in our worship is taken from the Bible.
My word that goes out from my mouth, it shall not return
to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose.
Isaiah 55:11
Liturgical.
Our worship has structure and follows patterns.
We use the same words, like saying ‘I love you’ for the 1000th
time.
Our worship patterns are Biblical.
The People are gathered together. The Word of the Lord is
read in the presence of all.
The presider gives interpretation, so that the people
understand the Word’s meaning.
We are made to weep, and then to rejoice at what God has
done. The people eat and drink together fat things and sweet
wine, the very gifts of God. Those who have nothing are
provided for.
Nehemiah 8
Law and
Gospel:
Admitting together our sin and need.
Being bold about what Jesus Christ has done for us!
Since all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God,
they are now justified by his grace as a gift, through the
redemption that is in Christ Jesus.
Romans 3:24
Good News:
You can do nothing to earn God’s loving grace.
God saves you as a gift.
But when the goodness and lovingkindess of God our Savior
appeared, he saved us, not because of any works of
righteousness we had done, but according to his mercy,
through the water of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.
Titus 3:4-5
To bring us
again to Faith and Trust in God.
And Abraham believed the Lord, and the Lord reckoned it to
him as righteousness.
Genesis 15:6
Word and
Sacrament:
God comes down to us.
Beginning with Moses and all the prophets, Jesus interpreted
to them the things about himself in all the scriptures…When
he was at table with them, he took bread, blessed, broke it,
and gave it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they
recognized him.
Luke 24:27, 30-31a
Sacramental.
God uses ordinary things like words, water, bread, wine,
oil, and people to pour out the Holy Spirit.
The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the
body of Christ?
1 Corinthians 10:16
Prayer-filled.
We pray for everybody, because God can help everybody.
Pray in the Spirit at all times in every prayer and
supplication. To that end keep alert and always persevere
in supplication for all the saints.
Ephesians 6:18
Mindful of
little and humble ones, especially children.
Our worship meets kids where they are, and honors them.
Have no fear, for I will take care of you and your little
ones.
Genesis 50:21
Infused with
the Holy Spirit, and the Joy of the Lord.
The Spirit
of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring
good news.
Luke 4:18
Holy. But
for us.
Worship the
Lord in the beauty of holiness.
Psalm 29:2
Done
together as a community.
Children, Adults, Elderly, Men, Women, Ushers, Readers,
Singers, Prayers, Servers, Organists, Guitarists,
Percussionists, Soloists, Acolytes, Crucifers, Altar
Caretakers, Assisting Ministers, Pastors--everyone has
something important to contribute.
You are a
chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own
people.
1 Peter 2:9
Strengthens
us to Love God and Serve our Neighbor in real life.
This is his
commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son
Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded
us.
1 John 3:23
Of the Whole
Church.
Our worship follows how Christians have been worshipping
for thousands of years. We are tied to the generations of
believers before us.
On Sunday
all are gathered together in unity. The records of the
apostles or the writings of the prophets are read for as
long as time allows. The presider exhorts and invites us
into the pattern of these good things. Then we all stand
and offer prayer.
When we have
concluded the prayer, bread is set out together with wine…
The presider then offers prayer and thanksgiving and the
people sing out their assent, saying the “Amen!”
There is a
distribution of the things over which thanks has been said
and each person participates, and these things are sent to
those who are not present.
Those who
are prosperous give what they wish according to each one’s
own choice, and the collection is deposited with the
presider, who aids orphans and widows, those in want because
of disease, those in prison, and foreigners who are staying
here.
We hold this
meeting together on Sunday since it is the first day, on
which God, having transformed darkness and matter, created
the world. On the same day Jesus our Savior rose from the
dead. On Sunday he appeared to his apostles and disciples
and taught them these things which we present to you.
From the
writings of early pastor and teacher, Justin Martyr, 150

What is our worship like???
Come
and See!
